YELLOW JACKET:

APPEARANCE:

Yellow Jackets are approximately 1/2” long with black and yellow stripes. They have 2 sets of wings and will appear to be hairless.

CYCLE:

They will colonize annually. The Queen’s reproduction begins in the late spring reaching high numbers in late summer. Workers will begin to die off in the fall and Queens will nest over the winter.

HABIT AND BEHAVIOUR:

Typically they nest in trees, shrubs, eaves or can be hidden in wall cavities or even under ground. Nests are made of paper and wood fibres. Beware; they will sting repeatedly.

BALDFACED HORNETS:

APPEARANCE:

They are approximately 5/8” to 3/4” long with white and black markings.

CYCLE:

Nests are typically located in bushes and shrubbery, at least 3 feet off the ground and can be as high as 60 feet or more. Nests are made of paper and wood fibres. Beware; they will sting repeatedly.
