SILVERFISH:
APPEARANCE:
Silverfish are 12mm to ½” long with a flattened, carrot shaped body covered in silvery scales.
CYCLE:
Females will lay 1-3 eggs per day. The eggs will take approximately 43 days to hatch.
HABIT AND BEHAVIOUR:
They prefer dark, warm, and high moisture areas and will feed on shampoo, glue from books, linens, sugars and starches.
FIREBRATS:
APPEARANCE:
They are approximately 1 to 1.5cm long with a tapered body. Firebrats are gray-brown with darker spots on the back.
CYCLE:
Females lay approximately 50 eggs that will hatch in less than 2 weeks.
HABIT AND BEHAVIOUR:
They prefer higher temperatures with humidity and are commonly found in boiler rooms, hot ovens, and hot water heaters. They feed on glue in books, carbohydrates and proteins.
BOOKLICE:
APPEARANCE:
They are 1/3 to ¼” long and range in a translucent white to gray or brown colour.
CYCLE:
Females can produce up to 60 eggs with a development time from egg to adult between 24-110 days.
HABIT AND BEHAVIOURS:
Booklice can be found inside and outside and enjoy feeding on moulds, fungi, starches and dead insects.
