PAVEMENT ANT:

APPEARANCE:

Pavement ants are typically 1/16” to 1/8” long. They will have a dark body with light legs.

CYCLE:

They emerge in the spring and throughout summer months.

HABIT AND BEHAVIOUR:

These ants will nest beneath stones, sidewalks and concrete slabs, and invade structures searching for food.

MOUND OR THATCHING ANTS:

APPEARANCE:

Mound or thatching ants are around ¼ inches long. Most commonly they are seen as brownish-black but can also include yellow, red or combinations of both colours.

CYCLE:

They emerge in the spring and throughout summer months.

HABIT AND BEHAVIOUR:

They will create mounds with the soil that they excavate underground and will bite when they are disturbed.

CARPENTER ANT:

APPEARANCE:

Carpenter ants are on average 6.5mm to 13mm long, but can vary in size. Most are black but can be black and red as well.

CYCLE:

They emerge in the spring and throughout summer months.

HABIT AND BEHAVIOURS:

These are large ants that prefer to nest inside damp or decaying wood. They can nest inside a structure or on the exterior of your home.
